Jubilee Celebrations Begin
The golden jubilee celebrations of Clyde Quay School. Wellington, which are being held this weekend, opened with a children's picnic and sports gathering for present pupils at Pirle Street Reserve yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance 01 old pupils, parents and friends. The weather, though cloudy, was tiue with a light northerly breeze. Addressing the children, the president of the Ex-pupils’ Association. Dr. D. Macdonald Wilson, said that they were celebrating a red-leter day in the history of the school, it did not seem long since he was at the school, and it would not be long before the present pupils would lie celebrating the one hundredth anniversary of the school s foundation. He extended to all present the compliments of the season and wished those pupils who were leaving school the best of luck in their future
The headmaster of the school. Mr: J. J. Rodgers, and staff, assisted by members of the Home and School Association. were responsible for the organization of the picnic.
During the afternoon fruit, sweets, ice creams and soft drinks wert distributed. Winners of '-aces from Standard 1 up were pa ill 1/- with fid. for second and 3dl for third. Childri u in tile primary classes were given 3d for first place. 2d. for second and Id. tor third. The jubilee celebrations will be continued today with a reunion of former pupils nt the-school. Elizabeth Street, at 2 p.m.. and a social and a dance iu the Oddfellows’, Hall at eight e'elock toniglit. Tomorrow a wreath will !1P placed on the. War Memorial. Lambrm Quay, at 11) u.jn., and a thanksgiving service will he held iu Hie De Luxe Theatre at 2.30 in the afternoon.
