German Attempts At Aryanization

GOTHENBURG, Dec. 9.

The Foreign Minister, Mr. Sandler, during a speech, complained of German attempts to extend Aryanization from German)' by influencing Swedish firms through trade relations.

Swedes were informed of the unsuitability of having non-Aryan employees and were asked the race of their employees and shareholders.

Mr. Sandler declared that the limits of propriety were ’thereby exceeded by pretentions to apply a specific German law which was offensive to the sense of justice of Sweden, and any yielding to which was disloyal to Swedish foreign trade. DISMISSAL OF JEWS IN ENGLAND Action Of German Firms (Received December 9, 9.45 p.m.) LONDON, December 9. _ That German firms carrying on business in England have been ordered to dismiss all their Jewish employees by December 25 is alleged in a question that Lt.-Commander Fletcher (Labour) is asking in the House of Commons next week.

The “Sketch” says it has been known for some time that German employers in London have been sacking Jewish employees, particularly in the shipping and forwarding firms. MAYOR OF NEW YORK THREATENED Attacks On Nazi Party

The mayor of New York, Mr. La Guardia, received a letter containing a .22 calibre loaded cartridge . and threatening, “You will get this if yon continue to attack the German Nazi party.” The missive, which was signed with a swastika, coincided with a citizens’ meeting under the chairmanship of the mayor, at which a protest was planned against persecutions in Germany and other countries. GERMANY WARNED Violation Of American Rights (Received December. 9, 9.45 p.m.) WASHINGTON, December 9. It is disclosed that the American Embassy in Berlin informed the State Department that the German decree of December 3 ordering Jews to liquidate their wholesale businesses will not exempt American Jews from its application. The State Department confirmed the report that the Embassy sent a Note to the German Government warning it against the violation of American rights through the decree. MUST GO ABROAD 7 Condition Of Release Of Austrian Jews (Received December 9, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, December 9. The Vienna correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says about 1360 Viennese Jews are being released from concentration camps, but unless they letive Austria for abroad on the appointed day they will be rearrested, even though they have nowhere to go.
