Arab Demonstrations Against Italians STREETS CLEARED BY POLICE French Reinforcements From Algeria By Telegraph.— Press Asen. —CopyrlgtV ' (Received December 9, 7.3? p.m.) TUNIS, December 9. Several thousand Arabs attempted anti-Italian demonstrations amid crowds of Italian and French, who were equally prepared for a light. The police cleared the avenues alter several charges, in which people were knocked down and cafe tallies overturned.
Scores of arrests were made, including 10 Italians, one being a member of the Consulate. A dozen ringleaders are held for trial. The editor of the Italian newspaper “Union,” which published violent articles against France, was also arrested. Another arrest reported is that of Signor Übaldo Rey, leader of the local Fascist organization. It is reported that the arrested Italians will be charged with seditious activities
The French arc sending reinforcements from Algeria. An Italian Consulate official alleges that 50 Italians have been injured since December 4. The Italian Consul-General is protesting to France against the anti-Italian demonstrations. He declared that if they do not cease the Italians will adopt legitimate defence measures. PARIS, December 8.
Anti-Italian demonstrations occurred In Toulouse and Strasbourg, students marching through the streets demanding that Italy shall hand over Sicily, Sardinia, and Tripoli. Police were called out to protect the Italian Consulate.
Five thousand students in the Paris Latin quarter burlesqued the Italian claims, marching and shouting “Give us Vesuvius.”-
A message from Venice states that Corsicans resident in Monte Carlo demonstrated against Italian claims Police prevented scenes outside the i Italian Consulate. ITALIANS IN SPAIN Concentrations Near French Frontier 1 (Received December 9, 8.30 p.m.) PARIS, December 9. Travellers report concentrations'of Italian troops near the French frontier of General Franco’s territory which may be intended for Genaral Franco’s push, but equally might be part of Sigaor Mussolini’s campaign against France.
It is stated that 10,000 Italians have been drafted to the province of Logrono.
