Bison, Bears, Beaver

And Elk

A large consignment of North American animals for tlie Wellington Zoo is expected in tlie near future, including a herd of bison, a colony of beaver, a sleuth of bears, and a gang of elk. Tlie zoo curator, Mr. ,1. Langridge, said yesterday that lie had not yet been advised exactly what number of animals were coming, oy by what ships. He was expecting tlie first shipment about Christmas, however. It was possible that some were on board the Limerick, due at Wellington, via Auckland, on December 18. Preparations have been made, however, to house the animals at the zoo, in case they arrive unexpectedly Alterations have been made to tlie cattle and deer paddocks, and a new bearpit lias been constructed. During the past year the zoo authorities have been carrying out a policy of restocking, renovation and extension. in view of tlie centennial next year.
