Eric EWiVtird Bartlett, of Burton, Christchuifch:, England, was fined a total of £3 in Bournemouth ou three charges of attempting to obtain £2 2/- by false pretences. He pleaded guilty. Mr. Haymond Treadwell, Bournemouth, one of those who answered the advertisement, received a reply headed “For the World Wide Film Corporation.” The letter said: “I can arrange a screen test for you at the World Wide Film Studios, Elstree. The charge is £2/2/-, payable in advance.” It was signed, "Eric Smith-, producer.” Mr. Treadwell consulted the police. Inquiries revealed that there was no such company as the World Wide Film Corporation, and that the letter was false.

Bartlet, who said he was in debt, admitted a further charge of the same kind.
