Makogai Leper Fund

Sir, —On behalf of our leper friends and the nursing sisters at Makogai. we desire to thank most warmly tlie people of New Zealand for the magnificent response made to our appeal. Sixty-five cases of useful goods have been shipped from Lyttelton. In addition to this we received the splendid sum of £3209 in cash.

Quite recently fifty additional lepers from a New Zealand dependency were sent to Makogai, and there arc now 633 patients to share our generosity. I Jt will be a pleasure for all donors to know that they have helped to create a spirit of joy and new hope in the life of some lonely, suffering soul. To use a leper’s words. “It is just, these things that make our lives bearable and worth living.” It isjour intention to form a representative committee in order to ensure continuity of this appeal, which is now of Dominion-wide interest.

In conclusion, wo wish to thank all contributing friends for the confidence reposed in both of us as trustees, and it is our sincere wish that they too. will feel gratified in having, through their remembrance and contributions, brought happiness to our leper patients.—We are, etc., T. FLETCHER TELFORD. P. J. TWOMEY. Joint Trustees, Makogai Leper Fund. Christchurch, December S.
