New Zealand
Word has been received that Horace Lindrum, the brilliant 20-year-old Australian snooker champion,' who is at presen t competing for the world snooker title in London, will visit New Zealand early next year.
He is one of the greatest snooker players in the world and holds the snooker record with a break of 141. He will be accompanied by his mother, who is woman snooker champion of Australia and plays under the name of Miss Violet Lindrum.
The Wellington Billiards Association Is negotiating with the Australian Amateur Billiard Council in an endeavour to have an Australian and New Zealand amateur billiards championship held in Wellington during the Centennial Exhibition.
If this championship is arranged, there should ibe some noted competitors, Including R. Marshall, Western Australia, the British Empire champion, who so decisively beat Kennerly, the English champion, in Melbourne. Marshall played so brilliantly at the British Empire championships that he was generally conceded to be up to professional class. The tournament to decide the British Empire amateur title will be held in India in 1940,, and Marshall will go on to defend his title after competing in the Australian and New Zealand championship in Wellington.
