NO NEW MATSON SHIPS PLANNED
San Francisco-Auckland Run By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 25. Reports that the Matson Navigation Company intends to place two new express liners on the San FranciscoAuckland route were denied today by Mr. 11. N. Thomas, passenger superintendent of the company for the New Zealand and Australian division, who was a through passenger for Sydney by lhe Mariposa. Mr. Thomas, whose headquarters are in San Francisco, intends to spend about five weeks in Australia, and will then return to New Zealand for a visit of about a fortnight. Mr. Thomas said he could state quite definitely that no new ships were planned by his company for the Pacific service. The Monterey and the Mariposa were quite able to meet all the demands of the existing traffic, and till they were not able to do so there was no need for new ships. However, if the patronage of the vessels increased to a point where they could not cope with it, then no doubt other ships would be placed in the service.
