Smith —Pirie

A FRIEND of both bride and groom performed the marriage ceremony when Miss Mavis Mona Pirle an'd Mr. Percy Reginald Smith were married recently. The .officiating minister was the Rev. E. J. Uoddiuott, Miramar, Wellington, and the eereffiony was performed at St. Paul's Methodist-Church, Palmerston North. Wedding music was played by Mr. A. '.L’regurtha, and the pretty ’decorations in the church were arranged by Miss R- DHiott. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Pirie, Marton, and the bridegroom is the eldest, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Smith, Palmerston North.

'l’he bride, who was escorted to the altar by het; father, wore a graceful trained gown of pearl satin with high neckline, the bodice being finished with .small satin buttons. A topknot of camellias held her tulle veil in place, and camellias, winter roses and maidenhair fern made a lovely bridal bouquet. ■ Buckingham lilac satin taffeta, echoing the design of the bride’s gown, made the bridesmaids’ frocks, which were finished with short trains. The maids were Miss Joan,Farland and Miss Lola Smith. Mr. Norman Smith, brother of the' groom, was best, man, and Mr. J. H. White was groomsman. The ushers were Mr. Don. Horn and Mr. C. Slddels.

A cheery and informal reception followed the ceremony. The future home of Mr. and Mrs. Smith will be at Forilell, 'Wanganui.

Bryant—Hunter The marriage of Miss Francis Hunter to Mr. IVarren Greenwood Bryant, at St. John’s Anglican Church, Johnsonville, recently, was one of the largest and prettiest local weddings for some time. The bride who entered the church with her father, wore & gown of chantilly lace with a veil to match reaching to the end of her long train, and fastened well back on the head with a high cluster of orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet of pink carnations, roses and heather. Deep rose pink velvet frocks worn by the three bridesmaids, were imide with boleros to match. They wore dolly varden bonnets tied under the chin with wide velvet ribbons. The bridesmaids were Miss Jean Falls, Porirua: Miss Ivy Spence, and Miss Dinah Bryant, sister of the bridegroom. They carried shower bouquets of pale pink heather and cyclamen, and wore strings of richelieu pearls the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. Guy Bryant attended his brother as best man. Mr. Harry Hunter was groomsman and Mr. Neville Bryant was the usher at the church. During the signing of the register ALss Stubbings sang “Oh Hear My Prayer.” The Rev; Air. Samuda was the officiating clergyman. Guests and well-wishers filled the church which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. At the reception after the ceremony Airs. Hunter received the guests wearing a lace frock in rust with hat and shoes to tone, and carrying a posy of autumn tinted Howers. ' Airs'. Len Bryant, mother of the bridegroom, wore a na,vy wool georgette ensemble, trimmed with fox fur, and navy hat and shoes to tone. She carried a posy of cyclamen and carnations.

The beautiful wedding cake was a feature of the bride's table. It was made by the bridegroom’s mother and iced and decorated by the bridegroom's cousin. Mrs. Randall. Karori. In the

evening, Air. and Mrs. Hunter entertained more than 300 young people at a dance in Prosser’s Hall, Porirua. Tile bride travelled in a navy and white suit with navy hat and shoes. Their future home will be at Ohariu Valley.
