NEW FLEET OF CARTS

Wellington Milk Service PNEUMATIC TYRES An entirely new fleet of milk delivery carts has been ordered by the Wellington municipal milk department. For some years the present fleet has done good service, but people have complained of the noise made by these carts with their iron-rimmed wheels and groaning brakes. These little hindrances to a peaceful life are to be obviated in the future. The new milk carts are to be stronger in construction that those at present in use but will have about the same carrying capacity. In addition each unit of the new fleet is to 'be fitted with pneumatic tyres and patent silent brakes so that, other than the “cloppity-clop” of the horses’ hooves (the carts are to .be horse-drawn) they will operate in silence. The new fleet will consist of 52 carts, and the order is one of the largest single orders ever placed with any firm in Wellington in this class of vehicular construction. Crawley, Ridley and Co., Ltd., Taranaki Street, will build the carts.
