Lower Hutt Card Parties

Mrs V. Mason and Mr. Neilson were the winners of the aggregate at a card evening held in the Lower Hutt Fire Brigade social room on Monday night Ih. prize-winners were Mrs. Brown and Mr. Pussell, Mrs. Murray and Mr. L. v. The prize-winners at a recent card afternoon held under tbe auspices of the Returned Soldiers’ Association women s auxiliary were Mrs. Cooley 1, Mrs. Neilson, special prize. Mrs. G. P. Mrs. J. B. McCallum presided at the monthly meeting of St. Stephen’s Prebyterian ’Women’s Association. Vocal duet.s were given by Mrs. F. Gray and Mrs. Cocker, their accompanist being Mrs. A. McArthur. Miss Caroline Ward, recently of London, gave a talk on health, which she stated was an absolute essential to beauty. One woman began the health movement in England a few years ago; now it claimed hundreds of thousands of followers all over the world. Miss Ward gave a demonstration of health exercises with Mrs. Wilson at the piano. ' Posies were presented to the speaker, the vocalists and the accompanist. Miss Irma Hyder leaves for Sydney to-day by the Awatea on route for Cairo, where her marriage to Lieutenant G. Powell will take place. Mrs. Hyder is accompanying her daughter. Mrs. H. F, Ayson, Ludlam Crescent, Lower Hutt, leaves to-day for Auckland, where she will proceed bv the Matua to the Cook Islands, to join her husband, Judge Ayson, C.M.G. Mr. T. A. Moodie, superintendent of Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., and Mrs. Moodie, have taken Judge Ayson’s house, Ludlam Crescent, Lower Hutt. Mr. C. E. Holmes, Wellington manager of Dalgety and Cp.. Ltd., and Mrs. Holmes, are taking up residence on the Western Hutt hills.
