EARTHQUAKE LOANS
No Reply From Minister Of Finance Dominion Special Service. Hastings, August 9. "The fact that no report has been received from the Minister of Finance to the request, of the local bodies concerned for the remission of earthquake loans is causing some concern,” said the mayor of Hastings, Mr. G. A. Maddison, nt a meeting of the borough council to-night. The finance committee brought down n recommendation that the town clerk be instructed to write to the Minister asking for a reply as early ns possible to the request made to him in February by a deputation of local bodies. Mr. Maddison said that because of the severe losses incurred as a result of tiie flood, the local bodies were particularly anxious to learn ns soon as possible whore they stood regarding earthqmike loans. , , , ■ The recoinnicnilation was adopted by the council.
