STRIKE EXTENSION LIKELY

Australian Engineers’

Grievances

By Telegraph.—Press Assn— Copyright. (Received August 10, 1-10 a.m.) Melbourne, August 0. The strike of engineers in the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation s works at Fishermen’s Bond threatens to extend to the munition works at Footseray and Maribyrnong, also to the defence factories in New South Wales, the workers of which will 'be asked to make common cause with the strikers. A meeting of shop stewards of the Victorian munition works to be. held tomorrow night will discuss this aspect. Mr. J. Cranwcll. chairman of the Amalgamated Engineering Union, explained that the new award for aircraft work, which ’ caused the dispute, was ‘•infamous,” providing for unlimited junior process workers and apprentices and allowing employers to contact any employee to train him on skilled work at less than 40 per cent, of his margin over the classification rates. Mr, Cranwcll claimed that all engineers would eventually suffer through this award. Hence the need for conu mon cause. COALMINERS AND OFFER OF TRIBUNAL ( Received August 10, 1.10 a.m.) Sydney, August 9.
