DINNER AND DANCE
English Women's Hockey Team Entertained
Saturday’s programme was a full one for members of the English women’s hockey team. Besides playing a match in the afternoon, they were the guests at a delightful dinner and later at a dance at night.
At the dinner party given by the Wellington Women’s Hockey Association, and held at the Empire Hotel, both teams took the opportunity of cementing friendships already begun.
Guests in addition to members of the teams included Mesdames A. Smith, R. Adams. E. G. Sundgren, E. Lilley and M. Macmillan, Misses A. Yorston, president of the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association; I. M. Pearce, secretary of the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association; J. Walker and E. McClelland.
The new assembly hall of the Wellington Technical College was beautifully decorated for the dance which followed, and which was given by the Technical Old Students’ Association in honour of the players.
The hall was artistically arranged with the English teams’ colours, maroon and white, and the colours of the Old Students’ Association, brown and white. On the stage an impressive shield of welcome was arranged. The supper-room was decorated with bowls of spring blooms. Mr. R. G. Ridling, director of. the technical college, accompanied by Mrs. Ridling, welcomed the guests. During the night the Ngati-Poneke Maori Club entertained with hakas and songs of welcome, which were received with much applause. A good orchestra supplied the music for dancing. There was a large attendance of dancers.
