ROYAL CENTENNIAL SHOW

Invercargill In 1939

AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY DECISIONS

The Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, at its annual conference yesterday, could not see its way to hold a centennial show in 1940, but decided to designate the Royal Show at Invercargill iu 1939 a Royal Centennial Show.

A special committee charged with the duty of investigating the possibility of holding a Royal Show iu or near Wellington during the period of the centennial exhibition, of exploring the possibilities of finding a permanent home for the Royal Show in or near Wellington, and also of suggesting alternative proposals, reported as follows :—

•'That it considers the holding of a Royal Show in 1940 in temporary buildings to be impracticable.

•'That it considered unfavourably the holding of a summer show in the autumn of 1940 at Palmerston North. “That it can recommend no practicable scheme for holding a centennial show, but that it recommends that the Royal Show to be held in Invercargill in 1939 be designated a Roval Centennial Show. “That it recommends that the committee set up last year —Sir William Perry, Messrs. J. Knight, W. Howard Booth, J. A. James, H. B. Stuckey, with the president, treasurer and secretary—continue in office, and that they formulate a scheme for the future conduct of royal shows, such scheme to be submitted to the council meeting at the time of the 1938 Royal Show, and, if approved by the council, to be submitted to all A. and P. associations and breed societies for report to next council meeting.'*
