HOTELS BOOKED OUT
Shake-downs Accepted By Race-Week Visitors
Hotel accommodation has been taxed to the limit in Wellington during race week. Double beds have been placed in single rooms and lounges have been converted into bedrooms. Hotel managers say they have not experienced such a busy period for a number of years.
Numerous requests for accommodation have been refused by leading hotels because of advance booking. The manager of a leading hotel said that people’ had offered fantastic prices for mere shakedowns and they were fully prepared to put up with any inconvenience so long as they had somewhere to sleep.
