Ceremony At Marsden

School

At the morning assembly at Marsden School yesterday there was a short ceremony' when u number of longservice badges and rite souvenir cards carrying the special portrait o£ Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth were presented to the girl members of the Navy League.

Mr. L. O. 11. Tripp and Dr. Graham Robertson briefly addressed the assembly on the work of the NavyLeague. They stressed the importance of a strong British Navy as the main factor in the preservation of world peace in these troublous days. Sea power was vital to the existence of the British Empire, and it consisted in a strong navy backed by an efficient air force and a merchant marine adequate to serve the needs of Great Britain and the overseas Dominions and colonies. Five long-service badges in recognition of seven consecutive years of membership were presented to senior girls by Mrs. L. O. H. Tripp, president of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Wellington branch of the Navy League, who, assisted by Mrs. P. R. M. Hanna, acting-president of the girls’ branch committee, presented the souvenir cards' to 157 members of the branch of the league. Others present on the platform with Miss Mayhew, principal of the school, were Miss Valerie Graham Robertson, a member of the girls’ branch committee, Mr. It. Darroch, secretary of the Wellington branch of the Navy League, and Mr. S. D. Waters, a member of the executive committee.

The proceedings concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Commodore H. E. Horan, D.S.C., will be the principal speaker at the annual meeting of the Wellington branch of the Navy League on July 25.
