WELLINGTON SKETCH CLUB
"The German view of art" was the subject of a lecture given by Dr. Laehore to the Wellington Sketch Club recently. De. Laehore explained the difference between the art historian and the practical artist. German artists viewed the subject chiefly from the former standpoint, lie said. The essential difference between the two viewpoints was that rhe practical artist judged a work from its aesthetic point of view, while the historian endeavoured to ticket and label its place in history. The artist asked, how; the historian, what. Dr. Laehore explained the historical development of art and its relationship to architecture. With the aid of lantern slides it was shown how the design aad style of churches reflected the mental outlook and habits of the people throughout history.
