MR. WARWK BRAITHWAITE
Mr. N. D. Braithwaite; of Weffington, referring to items in "The Dornin ion" about Mr. Warwick Braithwaite, the noted conductor now in England, states that Warwick, who Is his brother, is a son of Mr. Joseph Braithwaite, bookseller and stationer, of Dunedin, and a brother of Mrs. William Manson '(known to the musical world as Mabel Manson). Mr. Warwick Braithwaite left Dunedin for England in 1915, and there joined and served with the Royal Artillery. Later he resumed his musical studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where he won several scholarships, including the Myra Hess scholarship. He fathered the National Orchestra of WiHes, at Cardiff;; has deputised for Sir Henry Wood at the Queen’s Hall; and has been generally prominent in music throughout the Kingdom for a decade past. Now 41 years of age, Mr. Warwick Braithwaite (one of a family of six boysl, was prominent in competitions as a youth, and was considered one of Mr. Scherek’s most brilliant pianoforte pupils before he left for England. Mrs. Manson’s only son. who was a member of the London Scottish Regiment, was killed at the front in the great.-war on his twenty-first birthday. Mrs. Manson died suddenly in Sydney in 1983, when her husband, then manager for 'H.M.V., was superintending the erection of a factory there.
