MAORI WELCOME
English Women's Hockey Team An impressive and picturesque Maori custom, that of tending guests a ceremonious welcome, was enacted when members of the English women's hockey team were entertained at an afternoon party yesterday. It was given by Mrs. E. Sundgren, secretary of the Wellington Women’s Hockey Association, at her beautiful home, “Ferndale,” Homewood Avenue.
The welcoming ceremony was performed by Lady Pomare, Mrs. Heketa and Mrs. Black. After tea the visitors were conducted round the lovely gardens with their wealth of native trees and shrubs.
Besides the English players, other guests present included: Mesdames A. Smith, R. A. Adams, R. M. Jack, I. Bennett and A. O. Murdoch, and Miss J. Yeatman, assistant-secretary of the Wellington Women’s Hockey Association. -
