CLUB FOR GIRLS
Successful Y.W.C.A
Venture
The latest venture of the Wellington Y.W.C.A. is a club for girls employed in industrial firms, which was recently inaugurated with a successful games night. Many firms were represented, which promises well for the future of the club.
The games night began with a song “to break the ice,” followed by a display of Margaret Morris exercises by some of the Y.W.C.A. girls, led by Miss Marjory Bell. Team games were entered into enthusiastically, and a demonstration of live-a-side basketball proved popular, for this is a swift game and is not often played by girls. Community singing, led by Mr. C. E. Proctor, with Mrs. Proctor at the piano, was enjoyed by everyone, and afterward Mrs. L. Bridgman, general secretary of the Y.W.C.A., spoke to the girls of the activities of the new club and what it could offer them. She also introduced to them Miss A. Kirkwood, girls’ work secretary. More games were organised by Miss Hilda Hislop, sports secretary, and later supper was served. A committee of girls representing the various firms was in charge of the supper arrangements. They were .Misses Edna Gear, Flo Clark, Clare Williams, Vera Ansell, Evelyn Cochran, Doreen Eadie, and Win Iledderman. Miss E. Bennell. senior activities secretary, thanked the girls for their help and also Messrs. Johnston and Hunt, Y.M. C.A. members, who assisted with tile basketball demonstration. She also expressed gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Proctor for the way in which they had added to the evening’s entertainment.
