ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY

I For his second escape from custody I since lie was sentenced to five years’ i imiirisoiimeut in August, 1934, Colin i William Glass, aged 25, who was recaptured in an hotel in Auckland on June 25, aboul two months after escaping I from the Waikeria Borstal institution, was sentenced by .Mr. C. It. Orr-Walk-er, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, ; this morning. Glass was charged with being found without lawful excuse in the Hob Hoy j Hotel, on June 25; with escaping from ! lawful custody, having been convicted jof the offence of attempting to disI charge a firearm with intent to harm Detective Whitehead; and witli being lan incorrigible rogue in that he es- ' ciiiied from lawful custody. Glass ’ pleaded guilty to the last charge, wliere- ; upon ttie first two were withdrawn. Mr. Lennard, counsel for Glass, said tlie escape was not premeditated. Glass was. left unguarded and succumbed to It niiptation.
