DANNEVIRKE HUNT

Annual Meeting To-day FORM AND PROSPECTS Hunt Club Steeplechase (By The Watcheb.) The annual race meeting of the Dannevirke Hunt Club will be held at Dunnevirke to-day. Good fields are engaged, und, although the quality may be below the average, the acceptances for a hunt meeting are quite satisfactory, In addition there are one or two horses whose form may be a guide to their prospects. at Trentham. As the weather has cleared the track should be in good order, although the going will probably be soft. Single-pool betting will operate. In tlie hack hurdles the topweight, Red Rufus, has not raced for a long time, but he is better class than most of his opponents, and according to Hawke's Bay reports he has been in work some time. Primak looks certain to run well and should be on the improve all the time. The form of the others is not of a very high standard, .-but Aiguille and Master Hector should have prospects. Interlocutor might also be prominent. On Hastings form Morning Flight stands out. in the Takapau Novice. Selkirk, another two-year-old, has a reputation, and was made third favourite at Foxton, but he did not show up. Brilliant. Acre is not of much account, but he is fast, and as he can handle a soft track he might make the grade here. The straight at Dannevirke, however, is a fairly long one, and provides a test. Primak appears certain of favouritism in the Hunt Cup Steeplechase, and he should take a lot of beating. Croyden and Burghley have to be given chances, especially Burgbley. Interlocutor and Hanover might be capable of bringing off a surprise, and if Royal Toast runs on better than at Hastings he would take some catching. In the Rakaiatai Hack Handicap, Joe .Louis has a welter weight, but he was second at Otaki with 9.5. .Screen Star was a double winner at Poverty Bay in February, and might go well here. Golden Enterprise and Gladium are also possibilities on their recent form. Gladium won this race last year. Shining Hours won her maiden division very easily at Otaki, and a fresh horse in Marjory Daw should run well if forward. Her winning form nt Otaki last season was much better than maiden company. Colleen Gaiii run a fair race at Hastings last Saturday, but will have £o improve. The issue here looks fairly open. Slippery ran a fair race at Hastings among the sprinters lant Saturday and, although he is on the down grade, he must bo considered in the Kaitoke Handicap, where the distance will give him a chance to settle down. Passion Fruit has a good chance at his best recent form, and of the. others the likeliest appear to be Dorado and Hamarin. Dorado's form at Otaki was .promising, and he should be improved by his races there. Hamarin has won her last two races, and, although she won only against moderate company, she fe probably improved. Royal Tinge, unless plans are altered, will start in the last race. Passion Fruit would be difficult to beat

with all his weight in the Lady's Bracelet, but. probably he will take on the previous event. Misurina stole his raee at Ilastincß, but it was a good performance all tho same, and he is likely to be improved. Tres See must have a chance on last . Saturday's running. Princess Isabel, Hint and Tigreterre are all bred well enough to make a showing. Hamarin, if reserved for the Greenhills Handicap, should go well on her recent form. Golden Enterprise and Gladium are also strong form possibles, and Royal Tinge cannot be ignored on his Foxton running. d’ho following horses may be supported in their engagements: — Oringi Hurdles.—. Red Rufus and Primak. Takapau Novice. —Morning Plight and Brilliant Acre. . Hunt. Cup Steeples.—Primak and Burghley. „ , Rakaiatai Hack _ Handicap.—Golden Enterprise and Shining Hours.
