CAUSED JEALOUSY
Presentation Of American Girls At Court
“Dominion” Special Service— By Airmail. London, April 16. “I suppose 1 am an extremely brave man,” declared Mr. Joseph Kennedy, American Ambassador in London, after he had announced his decision drastically’ to cut down the number.of American presentations at Court. By confining the presentations to families of American officials in Eng--land, and to members of American families not merely visiting but actually domiciled in the country, Mr. Kennedy has disappointed hundreds of would-be American debutantes. “It was possible to arrive at any really democratic method of picking the girls," said Mr. Kennedy, after commenting on his own bravery. “We are allowed 30, twice the number presented by all the other diplomatic missions put together. “The first list is in thousands. This is weeded out to something over 300. The 30 who are finally presented are happy, but the others are disappointed and "there is a good deal of talk and jealousy. “In the long run this creates bad feeling and makes enemies for both countries. Presentation can only be useful when confined to girls who grew up here and have all their friends here.”
