SUDETEN GERMANS
British And French Intervention BERLIN ATTITUDE Quick Settlement Of Problem Sought By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 8. The Berlin correspondent' of “The Times” says that the British and French representations to Czechoslovakia are not unwelcome, provided that they emphasise that the Sudeten Germans must be granted self-deter-mination. Some quarters distrust the Anglo-French moves in Prague after the General Staff discussions between the British and French. The Germans desire a quick settlement, but without a European war. Then only will Germany be free to Improve her relations witli Western Powers, particularly England. The Berlin correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that Sir Nevile Henderson's visit to Field-Marshal Goering is regarded as a friendly act. Undoubtedly an attempt to persuade Germany to restrain the Sudeten Germans would be deeply resented. It is believed that Sir Nevile Henderson was told that Germany has no intention of using armed force in Czechoslovakia.
' Newspaper messages from Rome leave little doubt that Signor Mussolini has consented to allow Germany a free hand in Czechoslovakia.
