TRAINING AT WANGANUI

Dominion Special 'Service. Wanganui, May 9. Arrivals during the week-end included Boomerang, Alunga, Galteemore, .ToeLouis, Clarion Call, Beau Gallante, Huntino, Gay Hunting, Irish Orders, and Mittie. H. W. Scaliy arrived to-day with Viracious, Disturbed, In Command, and Aymon, while Clooneen and Huskies also arrived. The latter is not engaged at the Wanganui meeting. Conditions were ideal for training operations this morning, and the going on No. 1 track in good order, but there were only two fast gallops, most of the work being of the serviceable order. Gaily, who galloped a mile on Friday, was given a run over the same distance this morning, with R. Morrison in the saddle. She ran the first half in 53, the six furlongs in 1.20, ami the lull distance in 1.48. and was going well within herself. Gaily is very fit. Clarion Call put. in a couple of rounds at good half pace, hitting out very freely. He looks bright ami well. Although he bus not raced for a long time. Master Norvul looks well and free of the soreness which troubled him previously. He is engaged in the Connolly Handicap. He put in two rounds at a strong pace this morning. Beau Gallante was given two rounds at half puce, lie appears all the better for his race at Hawera. Joe’ Louis hit out freely in covering a round. Alunga also seems improved by his racing, and the same applies to Mittie, who was anxious to go faster this morning. Golden I’am was restricted to half-pace work. , Sam’s Choice (K. Chote) was given a gallop over six furlongs, which he left behind ,in 1.173, the first half being cut out in a tick under 51. Gay Hunting was taken to Hawera, but as no rider could be obtained he was not started. He wits given two rounds at half-pace and looks in good order. Gay Hunting is to run in the back distance event oil Thursday. S. T. Edwards will ride Johnny Walls and Captain Treville, in addition to Reipar, in their Wanganui engagements. Reipar went off his feed after the first day at Hawera, and has not been himself since. However, he worked well this morning in putting in a circuit at from half to three-quarter pace. JUMPING AT RICCARTON ■Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, May 9. There was some interesting jumping at Rieeurton this morning, mostly by novices. Nigbtbound was sent twice over three brush fences, and shaped well. William Rufus was sent out to jump four hurdles, but hit th s third hard and dislodged his rider at the fourth. Grampian gave an excellent display over six hurdles, going at a fast pace. Monastic jumped four hurdles, and Sitreoat followed him at an interval. This was the latter's first attempt over the bigger battens, and he gave further promise of making good as a hurdler. Guilder, after jumping the pony hurdles, cleared lour of the bigger hurdles In a smart manner. Drinkup is to be tried as a hurdler, and had his first lesson over the pony hurdles to-day. He baulked at one, but otherwise shaped satisfactorily. Punchestown is due to make his reappearance in the schooling arena at Riccartou to-morrow morning, and he will be accompanied in a round of the steeplechase fences by Flashlight.
