Board Of Control Meeting

The board of control of the Wellington Hostel for Returned Soldiers and Sailors reported at the annual meeting thin week that the finances of the hostel bad been considerably relieved by the sale of the property on The Terrace. The annual report stated that negotiations were also in progress for the sale of the Vivian Street property.

Thanks were due to the War Relief Association and the city tramways department for supplying free tram iickets for men attending as vut-patients of the Wellington Hospital. The hostel had a number of such men, who bad frequently to return for treatment.

At present there were 36 men in the hostel, which during the year had provided 33.799 meals and 11,140 beds. The donation of £l2O from the T. G. Macarthy Trust had been greatly appreciated, as this enabled the hostel to provide warm clothing and boots for those in need. The hostel was also able to pay doctors’ fees and provide medicine for men with only small pensions or no pensions. The spinsters’ club was thanked for gifts at Christmas; these gifts lltid been sent each year for many years. The proprietors of "Tlie Dominion” had provided a free paper for many years, for which thanks were renewed.

Thanks were also recorded to the manager of the hostel, Mr. 11. Murphy, and his staff for their faithful services; Io the Press and all who had sent magazine*, boots, clothing and donations during the year. The election of officers resulted as follows: Board of control, Mesdames E. J. Moore (president). A. F Boden, Preston and Thornley. Misses A. M. Bright, M. Dix, A. Kane. M. MacGregor and E. Warren: hon. secretary. Miss J. H. Fitchett; bon. treasurer, Mr. 11. B. Martin; auditors, Messrs. Clarke. Menzies, Griffin and Co.
