LOST IN BUSH FOR TEN DAYS

Elderly Man’s Ordeal Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, March 24. “Give me a cup of tea and a feed, was the first request made by Mr. James Calpln, aged 63, Pokaka, when be appeared at a sawmill in the O‘ la " kune district after having been lost for ten days in the bush. He was reported missing on March 8 after he bai set out to search for some missing cattle. Mr. Calpln lost his way in the bush and fell down a 30-foot gully and broke a finger. For three days he wandered about in an almost delirious condition, weak from hunger, the only £ood he had eaten being some small wild apples. Hearing a whistle in the distance, Mr, Calpin tried to locate it, but the rough nature of the country kept him from doing so. Eventually, however, he found his way out, emerging from the bush near the Marton Sash and Door Company’s mill. He later returned to his home at Pokaka.
