SAN FRANCISCO EXPOSITION

Dominion To Take Part

EMPHASIS ON TOURIST attractions The Government has decided to participate in' the Golden Gate international Exposition, which is to be hold at San Francisco from February 18 to December 2 of next year. This announcement was made by the Minister in charge of Tourist and Publicity, Hon. F. Langstone, in an interview last evening. Mr. Langstone said that 1600 square feet of free space had been offered to the Government by the exposition authorities. This offer had been accepted, and the Tourist and Publicity Department was now making arrangements for New Zealand to be represented by appropriate exhibits. The exposition would consist of exhibits largely of. a cultural and educational nature, and consequently the New Zealand exhibit would emphasise the tourist attractions of the Dominion rather than its trade and industrial activities. The latter aspects of New Zealand life would be adequately represented at the world fair to be held in New York from Ma?"! to October 3.1 of next year, and at the exhibition at present being held in Glasgow. Trade Commissioner To Retire. Stating that the Government would naturally require to send one or more officers to the San Francisco Exposition, the Minister said that Mr. J. W. Collins, the New Zealand Trade and Tourist Commissioner stationed at Toronto, had expressed a desire to be relieved of his duties. Arrangements were now being made to meet Mr. Collins’s wishes. It was probable that Mr. R. M. Firth, the New Zealand Trade and Tourist' Commissioner stationed at Los Angeles, would succeed Mr. Collins at Toronto, and that the officer selected to go to the Golden Gate Exposition would subsequently take over Mr. Firth’s position. It is understood that this appointment is likely to be given to Mr. R. W. Marshall, district manager of the Tourist Department at Wellington,
