GALLOPS AT TE RAPA

Dominion Special Service. Hamilton, March 24. Conditions were pleasant at Te Rapa this morning when galloping took place on the No. 2 grass and the plough, both of which provided fast going. Several smart efforts were recorded by candidates for the Bay of Plenty meeting, the best being those of Respectful over six furlongs, and Tosh, Trilliarch and Merial over five. On the No. 2 grass Bronzette (R. D. Ozanne) and Senacre (R. Telford) got to the end of half a mile pleasingly in 514. May Song (J. Winder), who looks improved with her racing at Paeroa, was doing better than Racette (Bootsma) at the completion of seven furlongs in 1.27}, the last half-mile in 54 4-5. The best six-furlong trial of the morning was that of Respectful (Gollop) and Sinking Fund (McKenzie), the former finishing half a length in front. Though Respectful had a substantial pull in the weights, his showing was an encouraging one. Raceline (H. Long)» under a firm hold, came home from the three-furlong peg in 40. Tosh (N. R. McKenzie) was revelling in his work over the deciding stages of five furlongs run in 1.3}. Tosh appears to thrive on racing and is in good order. There was little between Trilliarch (J. Day), Tradesman (Reilly), and Miss Clipper TR. Telford) at the completion of five furlongs in 1.3}. All did their work pleasingly. The balance of the morning’s work was done on the plough. Master Brierly (Bootsma) finished clear of Prince Rangi (J. Winder) and Viilpai (light boy) at the completion of a round in 1.46 4-5. Over a similar distance Lucidus (N. C. Trillo) was slightly in advance of Kilberis (N. R. McKenzie) in 1.47}. Merial (Bootsma) was holding Te Poura (J. Winder) at the end of five furlongs in 1.3 2-5. Riding engagements for the Bay of Plenty meeting include:—J. Winder, Racette, May Song; N. C. Trillo, Kilberis; H. Long, Miss Lu, Lornacre, Valimeen, Australian Star, Raceline; J. Muir, Innes Lad; R. Glading, Poker Face; F. E. Baker, Swiftspear; A. Gilmer, Simint; C. G. Goulsbro, Trilliarch.

Bred in Hawke’s Bay. The Oamaru winner, Flame Queen, was bred in Hawke’s , Bay by Mr. W. J. Wood and was raced by him up to the beginning of the year, when she was sold to patrons ot S. Barr's stable. Flame Queen is a three-ycar-old filly by Siegfried from Belgian Queen, and she showed a lot of promise when racing in the North Island.
