WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

The Poroutawhao Women’s Institute held its usual monthly meeting at the borne of Mrs, J. Spiers, one of its most energetic members, who was -hostess nt a very successful "electric” afternoon. A radio, an electric egg-beater, and radiators, were displayed. Several competitions were held, and afternoon tea was served by the hostess, assisted by her daughters. A vote of thanks was passed by those present to Mrs. Spiers for so kindly arranging such an instructive and pleasant afternoon, Alfredton. The annual meeting of the Alfredton institute was held recently. Mrs. M'estop, the retiring president, presided. Officers for the ensuing year are: President, Mrs. Hull; secretary, Mrs. Dickens; treasurer, Mrs. Low ; committee, Mesdames Weston, Didsbury, A. Napier, Glee, Roles, Parsonson, Payne, Smith, Bicknell, Yarrall, and Miss K. Smith. Mrs. George presented dainty shoulder sprays made by Mrs. G. Napier, to the retiring president, Mrs. Weston, the retiring secretary, Mrs. Parsonson, and the treasurer, Mrs. Low, who was reelected. Mrs. Weston thanked the officers and members for their support through the year. The points prize for the year was won by Mrs. Weston, with Mrs. G. Napier second. A special entry prize was given by Mrs. McLean, and was won by Mrs. Dickens. Mrs. George proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the retiring officers. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. H. Percy and Miss R. Godlnagh. Kopuanuiga, The annual meeting of the Kopuaranga Women’s Institute was held in the local hall,.Mrs. S. J. Clarke presiding over a very gqod attendance. The president thanked members and committee for help given to her during the year, and on behalf of all members askerl Mrs. Jarrett to accept a gift as an appreciation of her services as secretary for the past three years. Miss L. Fenemor was appointed home and country agent. Officers elected for the ensuing year were: President, Mrs. S. J. Clarke; committee, Mrs. S. J. Clarke, Mrs. A. B. Cottle, Mrs. E. C. Cottle, Mrs. W. J. Cottle (secretary), Mrs. A. Donald, Mrs. H. Evans, Mrs. C. Jarrett. Mrs. R. Kenny (treasurer), Mrs. E. J. W right.

The competition for a cretonne apron not -to cost more than 1/6, resulted as follows: Mrs. C. P. Jarrett 1, Mrs. H. Evans 2, Miss E. Jarrett 3. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames A. Donald, E. J. Wright, C. Jarrett.
