EUROPEAN VISITORS

University-Women's Club Entertains An interesting afternoon gathering took place recently at the University Women’s Club, when several visitors from Europe were present. Mrs. Down, chairman, received. The guests were a little diffident, on account of their sparse knowledge of the English language, of addressing those present, but were very willing to talk informally with club members, either singly or in groups. Much interesting information was tints elicited. Mrs. Ruben gave two charming piano items, Madame Finlayson gave two elocutionary items in French, and Miss E. Hind, a club member, returned the compliment with two elocutionary numbers. Mesdames Krauss and Pick, both university women, girve some of their impressions of Australia and New Zealand. Also present were Mesdames Leyser and Rothchild. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the house coni mittee. Farewell Party A delightful evening party to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Gorden Weeber and their son Raymond, who are leaving next week for an extended visit to America, was given recently by Mr. and Mrs. Claude Jansen at their home at Karori. The reception rooms were decorated with vases of dahlias. The guests included relatives and old friends of the Weeber family, who had gathered to wish them “bon voyage” and a safe return. Mrs. Jansen was assisted in the entertainment of her visitors by her 'sister, Mrs. Eric Oldham, and elocutionary and dramatic items were given by the Misses J. and E. Weeber and Mrs. IS. Maslen. A number of amusing games and competitions were enjoyed, and a special feature of the evening was the decoration of the-suppe r table, which was greatly admired, as it was arranged to represent tlie deck of the steamer on which the guests of honour are to travel to San Francisco, and was laden with many dishes forming the ship’s menu. At the conclusion of the supper Mr. C. W. Hart extended good wishes on behalf of those present and Messrs. G. and R. Weeber suitably replied. Mrs. Weeber then opened the many gifts that had been brought for use during the tour, and the evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”

Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Russell, Mrs. E. Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. J. Graham, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Hurt. Mr. and Mrs. L. Lyons, Mr. and Mrs. T. Collins, Mr. and sirs. Howell. Mrs. A. Wein, Miss J. Harper, and Messrs. L. Harper and C. Horner. ■■■■■■ -
