At this week’s meeting of the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League, it was decided to send a representative team to Wairarapa to play on Easter. Saturday and Monday. The management committee decided to make a donation of £l5 toward the expenses of the trip. Permission was granted to Amalgamated Bricks to send a team to Palmerston North on April 3. . A sub-committee comprising Messrs. Young, Martin, and the secretary', brought down a report in connection with a proposed scheme of insurance for the purpose of covering umpires and player*. The sub-committee recommended that it be a recommendation to the annual meeting that a fund be established under which players and umpires-will be protected to at least a limited extent for costs incurred by injury on the field. It was proposed that the fund be raised by increasing the registration fee by 1/6, and that the fund be controlled by three trustees. The medical expenses to be limited to £5 for any one claim, and each case to be considered on its merits and be accompanied by a medical certificate. It was decided to approve the principle expounded in the report, and further discut'sion was postponed until. the re-cess months, during which time information on existing sports schemes will be obtained. Clubs will be asked to supply information in regard to injuries sustained by players during the past season. Arrangements were completed for a match between the management commit; tee and the Mercantile League Umpires Association at Athletic Park at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The recording secretary reported that Harbour Board A had won the Heinemann Cup for the greatest aggregate of runs in the Mercantile League competitions. The highest aggregates in each grade were scored as follows: A 3501 runs; B, Harbour Board, 370: ; C, Tramways. 3660; D. Atlantic Union. 3444; E, Burch and Co., 3337 ; F, Moore Wilson, 3292; special, H.M.V., 3222. Forty-five batsmen scored 500 runs or more, while 42 bowlers took 50 wickets or more. The management committee team to meet the umpires’ association on Saturday was chosen as follows :,G. P. Aldridge (captain). E. F. Casey, A. A. Jennings, J Young, B. F. Whitmore. G. L. Morison, E. R.
