Why You Blush
jRLUSHING is a healthy skin reaction, the result of physical or emotional agitation, just as when one gets “goose flesh” or the mouth “waters.” Many people are so highly sensitive that they blush upon the slightest provocation, and, to their embarrassment, often at inopportune moments.
Children especially are prone to blush as when comments concerning them are made in their hearing, or when they are accused of wrong-doing. It is most unjust to interpret blushing as an evidence of guilt. The exposed throats of women react the same as the face, not because they happen to be visible, but because the collarless gowns permit free access of air to that area, and it acquires the same sensitivity as the face. The blush of primitive folk who wear little clothing extends all over their bodies.
