JUNIOR BOWLERS

Champion Of Champions Singles NEWTOWN PLAYER WINS The representative of the Newtown Bowling Club, G. Walden, won the junior champion of champions singles competition of the Wellington Bowling Centre which was held at the Newtown green yesterday. Sixteen players were entered, Hataitai, which did not conduct a competition for a junior singles championship, withdrawing. The withdrawal of Hataitai disposed of the necessity of byes in the first round and reduced the competition to two rounds, semi-finals and final, and play concluded comparatively early. Tito games produced play of an evenly high standard, specially in the second round. The semi-finals were not so interesting, but the players in the final were an evenly matched pair. The drawing was not only good for juniors but it would have done credit to seniors. Showers in the morning made the green rather heavy, but (lid not hinder the conduct of the competition seriously. Play was stopped during the first one and morning tea was taken during the second. The president of the Newtown club, Mr. G. W. Booth, welcomed the players to the green in the morning and at the conclusion of play Mr. S. Ingram, apologising for the absence of the centre president, Mr. M. J. Casey, congratulated the winner and runner-up on behalf of the centre. Results in detail are as follows :— First round: W. Heraud (Eastbourne) 22, 11. Findlay (Upper Hutt) 15; G.
