HUTT GOLF CLUB

Improvements To Course A progressive forward policy of course improvements was reported at the annual meeting of the Hutt Golf Club, held at the clubhouse last night. The president, Mr. G. Cook, presided oyer a representative attendance of members. . Tlip annual report stated that the total membership at the end of last year stood at 518, consisting of 171 men and 110 women ordinary members; 10 mid-week members, 25 junior members, lu4 nonplaying members, and 53 country members. The report stated that Mr. M. W. Horton, advisory officer to the greens research committee, had visited the course on several occasions during the year, and expressed himself as being well pleased with the manner in which the work was being carried out. A programme of work had been put in hand, which included the forming of new tees, alteration of greens, turfing of bunkers, relaying of the putting green, and this worl< was steadily proceeding. Owing to the exceptional spell of dry weathej experienced in the early spring, ths tees sown at that time had not cpme' up to expectations, and autumn sowing was necessary. The course had been in excellent condition during the past year, and had been the subject of favourable comment from both members and visitors. Credit in this respect was due to the head greenkeeper, Mr. A. Biel, and his staff. Owing to the increase of cost of course maintenance, it was decided to increase the subscription to the club by £l/1/- for men and 10/6 for women. Mr. F. J. Ansell referred to the excellent work which had been done by the secretary, Mr. N. 11. Smith, during the year. The appointment of a permanent secretary, he said, had been one of the most progressive moves ever made by the committee of the club. The club captain, Mr. C. A. Burgess, also paid a high tribute to the manner in which Mr. Smith had carried out his duties since his appointment. Mr. J. H. 11. Jack, a foundation member of the club, was elected a life member. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. G. Cook (re-elect-ed) ; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. A. Ewen and J. H. Wagg (re-elected) ; club captain, Mr. C. A.
