UNIVERSITY CRICKET
Canterbury Playing Otago By Telegraph—Press Association Dunedin, March 23. The annual cricket match between Otago University and Canterbury University College was begun on the University oval to-day in beautiful weather. The wicket was in good order and the outfield fast. Canterbury in their first innings scored 187 (Hay 76, Mitchell 23, Jolly four for 48), and in their second innings have lost one wicket for 22 (Hay 11 not out). Hadlee in the first innings was dismissed for 7, being bowled by Begg, and in the second innings was bowled by Jolly for 4. Otago’s first innings realised 152 (Uttley 58, Lawson 29, Maplejack three for 44, Arneson three for 42) .The game will be concluded to-morrow. HIGH SCHOOLS’ MATCH By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, March 23. The first match between Otago and Timaru Boys’ High Schools was begun on the High School ground to-day in beautiful weather. Scores:— Timaru, in their first innings, made 128 (Heasley 48, Williams 32, Freeman four for 11, Gough three for 33). Otago in their first innings have made 131 for five wickets (Gough 63 not out, Somerville 39). The match is to become an annual fixture.
