Defence Of New Zealand
Sir, —I think it high time that the people of New Zealand thought about the defences of their own country. To-day most of the people work 40 hours. What do they do in the rest of their hours? Those hours are spent in play and card parties, etc. The people do not seem to realise that if an attacking country invaded our shores we could not give much resistance. We have a very small navy, while our air force is not even up to scratch, and our army is exceedingly small. Our nearest defence ,is some 3000 odd miles away, and if that defence were passed and captured, well, the people can only ask themselves what would happen.— I am, BLACK SLUGGARD Taihape, March 22.
