NEW HOSPITAL
Proposed Christchurch Building COMPETITIVE DESIGNS By Telegraph—Press Association Christchurch, March 23. The selection of a design for the new hospital to serve as a subsidiary to the Christchurch Public Hospital, will be made on a competitive basis. The architect whose design wins w.d have the suitervision of the work, an I there will be substantial prizes for those whose submissions are judged second and third, This decision was made by the North Canterbury Hospital Board this morning. "We sliouid not gft into a rut,” said the Hon. J. K. Archer. M.L.C., in making the proposal. “There must be new ideas in hospital design.” It had been suggested to the board's architects, said Mr. L. B. Evans, that they should send a representative to Australia at least to study recent developments before plans were drawn up. Sir Hugh Adand said that a man who had studied hospital design abroad might be of the most Help to the board in drawing the plans for the subsidiary hospital.
