BRAILLE CLUB
Business At Annual Meeting 'The Wellington Braille Club held its annual meeting at the Red Cross rooms, Dixon Street, recently, Mrs. Gordon, acting-president, being in the chair. Sev.en new transcribing members were welcomed by Mrs. Goridon, and a letter was read from the president, Mrs. S. Israel (who is visiting England), extending greetings to the club. The election of officers resulted in all the present office-bearers being reelected. It was decided to hold the annual bridge party on May 18. A review of the transcription work for the brailled Post Rangers’ “budget” was presented by Miss Re Van Staveren, arrangements being made to facilitate this work, which is a big and important branch of the club’s activities.
The names of Braille magazines were discussed, a generous donation having been made toward a year’s subscription to a Braille magazine. It was decided, on Mrs. Russell’s recommendation, to subscribe to the “Horae Jocundae. Members submitted titles of books with a view to transcribing these in the future. The annual report expressed thanks to all who had assisted the club in any way during the past year. Special acknowledgments were also made to the “budget” secretary, Miss Re Van Staveren, and her assistants, Miss Moginie and Miss Morpeth; also to Mrs. Duff, correspondence secretary; to members of the binding circle and to Mr. Mead for his invaluable all-round help. Thanks were also given to Mrs. Boyd and Miss Re Van Staveren for organising the annual bridge party. It was stated that, as Mrs. Israel is devoting much of her time, in England to visiting institutions for the blind and observing advances and improvements in methods and apparatus, the club members expect to benefit greatly in theifr future work from her investigations. Activities during the past year were also dealt with, including work at classes, entertainments, meetings, and the work of the transcribers.
