Wellington Association’s Annual Meeting Satisfaction at the sound state of the finances whs expressed by members ot the Wellington Soccer Referees’ Association at the annual meeting last night, and a motion was passed thanking the hon. treasurer, Mr. F. Dean, for his work. Instead of the usual three or four pounds credit, it was stated, the association had a balance of £lB/17/1, and the position looked bright for the future Several "question box” nights had been held, and these had proved very popular, the auuual report stated. An interesting and instructive talk on general improvements in the game was given by Mr. Iv. Scott, and a talk was also given by Mr. J. Hayward. , The practical examinations of the 193 b season not having been completed, they were carried out during the 1937 season, and congratulations were extended to Mr. F. Dean on gaining his New Zealand badge. The theory and oral portion of the 1937 examination was also held, and congratulations were extended to Mr. L. D. McMillian for having passed that stage (;Of the examination. To the unsuccessful members, the hope was expressed that they would try again during the coming season. As a result of the visit of the English team 1937 proved a red-letter season for New Zealand. The following representative games were controlled by members of the association Wellington v. England, Mr. J. Sanderson; third Test, New Zealand v. England, Mr. G. .Jackson ; Canterbury v. Wellington, Mr. J. Houston; (Nelson v. Wellington, Mr. J. Graham. The thanks of the association were extended to members of the appointment board, Messrs. G. Jackson. 15. J. McQueen, and A. Bell, tor their untiring work during the year. Thanks were also extended to the N.Z.R.A. and the W .F.A. for their assistance and support. The election of office-bearers resulted: —Patron, Mr. G. Lamb; president, Mr. J. Barber, A. Bell, J. Dewar, L. D. McMillian delegate to N.Z.R.A., Mr. A. Reid delegate to W.F.A., Mr. E. J McQueen examination board, Mesxrs. W. E. Watts, J. Graham. R. H. Parfitt, F. Sanders, G. Forbes, and A. Reid appointment board, Messrs. E. J. McQueen, A. Reid and A. Bell delegate to Hutt Valley League, Mr. L. Creagh. Mr. H. W. Smith was. appointed a life member of the association. Thanking members for the honour conferred on him, Mr. Smith said he would be entering his thirty-third year as a referee, and during the whole of that time he had missed only half a season. The meeting passed a remit to the Wellington Football Association that its rules be altered to allow the referees’ association one representative at the annual meeting of the W.F.A.
