COURTCRAFT AND THE CROONER

Both Horses Recovering Dominion Special Service. I’alinerston North, March 22. After the race for the New Zealand St. Leger at Trentham the Nigger Minstrel colt The Crooner was in such a bad way that it was thought he would have to miss liis remaining engagements this season, but under treatment over the week-end he made a remarkable recovery, and Mrs. A. W. McDonald is hopeful of being able to continue his work next week in preparation for his Great Northern St. Leger engagement. As well as being kicked on the point of the shoulder by Royal Clnel before the St. Leger, The Crooner was also savaged at the post. Most of the swelling has been reduced and he now shows little signs of soreness. Pleasing reports are also to hand con-, corning Courtcraft, who went amiss in liis final gallop before the St. Leger, and he is well on the road to recovery under Davie’s treatment. It should be possible next week to ascertain whether it will be advisable to continue hisiGreat Northern St. Leger engagement.
