Wellington Inter-Club Matches SATURDAY’S RESULTS Conditions for play were ideal on Saturday when the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association’s inter-club matches were continued at Miramar. Wellington secured a one-set victoriy over Newtown in the senior A men’s grade, and the Thorndon Club beat Newtown in the senior women’s grade. In the senior A men’s grade, the position between New town B and Wellington B is interesting; the result will depend on one doubles yet to be played. Playing for the first time this season for the Wellington Club. D. C. Coombe was beaten in straight sets by N. Edwards, Newtown’s number one player. The match was not nearly as good as that in which T. Lyons beat E. Roussell. Lyons was aggressive where Roussell was defensive, his smashing of Roussell’s many short lobs being brilliant. MEETING OF MANAGEMENT ’ COMMITTEE A meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association was held last week, the chairman. Mr. J. L. Mac Duff, presiding. The chairman reported that the receipts from the Quist exhibition matches at Miramar on Saturday, Madfh 5, amounted to £ll9/1/-. and that the Wellington Association’s share of the takings was £26/1/7. Mr. L. H. Pollock, manager, reported on the matches played by Wellington against Taranaki and Manawatu on Febru ary 26 and 27 respectively, the former at Waverley and the latter at Palmerston North. 'Wellington won the majority of rubbers in both matches. The only complaint made concerning the Taranaal matches was that the umpiring in tnanv cases-was not good because of inexperience. “It was a forcible reminder of the valuable work our Umpires' Association is doing in Wellington." said Mr. Pollock. He also reconimentled that the Wellington association endeavour to pay more attention to doubles training aud tactics, especially with the women, who would benefit from some Instruction.

Wellington senior and a colts’ teams will play teams from .the Hutt Valley on March 26. In the event of rain on the Saturday the senior matches will be played on Sunday. Marell 27, and the colts' matches will be played the following Saturday. The senior team will play at Miramar and the colts nt Lower Hutt. The colts’ team will consist of four boys and four girls and the senior team of six men and six women. Mr. J. Dempsey will mana'ge the colts’ team and Mr. L. Wise the senior I team. 4 BROADCASTING SERVICES AT PLAY During the 'week-end teams from the National Broadcasting Service and the National Commercial Broadcasting Service tried conclusions on the 'Wellington Lawu Tennis Association's courts at Miramar. The conditions for play were excellent except for a fairly strong northerly wind. The National Broadcasting Service won by 20 rubbers, 243 games, to 12 rubbers, 103 games.
