leport To Chinese Consul The following cablegram has been sceived from Hankow by the Chinese ansul: — A small body of enemy troops crept > Fenlindo, and from the opposite ank of the river fired over 30 shells t the Tunkwan railway station. No image was done. Subsequently our oops cut off the retreat of the enemy ad the latter is now completely suraunded. The enemy’s plan to capture ungkwan ■will be most difficult to atlin.
A squadron of our planes flew to the south of Shansi and bombed the enemy’s positions. On their return they met near Weiuan five enemy planes on their way back after bombing Sian, three of which were brought down by our planes. According to reports from the Chinese air force, from the commencement of the Sino-Japanese conflict up to the end of February last, 216 enemy planes were brought down by our planes and anti-aircraft guns; 130 were destroyed on the ground by our air force; 67 were shot down by our infantry and artillery; over 100 were shot and damaged and were forced to land in territory under tlie enemy's control, making a totirl of over 515 enemy planes damaged and destroyed.
