CHARGE OF THEFT OF DRESSES

Described on the charge sheet at the Magistrates’ Court to-day as “camera girls,’’ Iris Milna Murphy, aged 19, and Patricia Joan Thompson, aged 20, were charged with stealing on March 8 two dresses valued at £3/10/-, the property of Myra Grieves. The police obtained a remand until March 17. “These girls say they arrived as stowaways on board the Mariposa, but whether that is true o r not we do not know,” said Detective-Sergeant McHugh. The magistrate said that while on remand the accused were to remain at the Salvation Army Home.
