Miss Kathleen Courtney’s Visit To Wellington
At this time of international tension, with peace in the balance, the visit of Miss Kathleen Courtney presents a unique opportunity to the people of Wellington.
Miss Courtney is know’n throughout the world for her interest in and practical support of international movements. She is the honorary secretary, and one of the originators, o£ the Women’s Peace Crusade. She has been guest speaker at two Pan-Pacific Conferences, and has travelled much in the Balkans and Poland and given splendid service in Greece at the time of the burning of Smyrna. She comes also with first-hand information of the League of Nations’ discussions, having been a regular observer at the annual Assembly Cor the League for several years. Miss Courtney has already visited Auckland, Whangarei, Hamilton, Palmerston North, New Plymouth and Wanganui, and reports received comment on her wide knowledge and understanding of international affairs, with which she combines an ease of expression and graciousness of personality which holds the attention of her audiences. The following list of groups which will meet Miss Courtney illustrate the interest being taken in her visit. They are the Rotary Chib, League of Nations ■Union, Institute of Pacific Relations, English-Speaking Union, Federation of University Women, Educational Institute. Y.W.C.A. Business and Professional Women’s Round Table Club and Y.M.C.A. Optimists. Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Women's Institute. A civic reception will be given Miss Courtney by the mayor of Wellington on Monday, and the public will have the opportunity to hear her on Tuesday in the Concert Chamber. Town Hall. Her subject will be “Conflicting Ideologies in Europe; a Danger to Peace.” A special gathering has been 'arranged for secondary school students, and a large youth gathering has been planned for Thursday evening in the Y.W.C.A. Blue Triangje Hall. On this occasion Miss Courtney will take as her subject “Youth and World Co-operation.” It has been found necessary to cancel the discussion group planned for Monday night.
