LABOUR CANDIDATES ENDORSED
Kaipara Seat To Be Contested Six more candidates to represent the Labour Party at the general election have been endorsed by the national executive of the party. Five are sitting members. The sixth will contest the Kaipara seat against the Rt. Hom J. G. Coates. Following are the candidates Mr. J. Hodgens, M.P., Palmerston North. Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P., Timaru. Mr. A. F. Moneur, M.P., Rotorua. Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P., Otahuhu. Mr. E. P. Meachen, M.P., Marlbor ough. Mr. P. McGregor Stewart, Kaipara. Mr. Stewart is a farmer and has taken a prominent part in farming matters Of. Scottish descent, he was born at Peterborough, England, 39 years ago, and in October, 1914, he joined the Imperial Army, and was four and a-half years with the Machine-gun Corps, nearly three years of which he spent in the trenches In France, before he was 21 years of age. He came to New Zea-' land nearly 19 years ago, and took up his present farm in the Whenuanul Soldiers’ Block at Ruawai ten years ago. Mr. Stewart is a director of the Ruawai Dairy Company, president of the Ruawai branch of the Farmers’ Union, vicepresident of the Northern Wairoa subprovincial branch of the Farmers’ Union, and president of the Ruawai branch of the New Zealand Labour Party.
