Y.M.C.A. DIRECTORS MEET
Activities Reviewed At a meeting of the board of directors of the. Wellington Y.M.C.A. this week the president, Mr. R. H. Nimmo, presided over a large attendance. Mr. J. H. Dick, formerly a director of the Palmerston North association, was welcomed us a new member of the’ board. A report of the association’s summer activities, gave details o£ the successful holiday tours to Australia and to the West Coast of the South Island, the boys’ camp held at Otaki, which 122 boys had attended, the progress of the association’s two cricket teams, and the development of the swimming and life-saving club, which was now enjoying its most successful season since pre-war days. No fewer than 32 adult members -had secured the bronze medallion of the Royal Life-Saving Society. The general secretary, Mr. V. C. Jones, presented a’statement outlining modern Y.M.C.A. principles and practices, together with suggestions, for appropriate forward. moves to be taken by the Wellington association. The report created considerable interest among the directors, and it was decided to hold a special conference on March 7 to further the consideration of the report and its recommendations. It was reported that the National Convention of New Zealand Y.M.C.A.’s would be held in Wellington on March 16-17, when the Wellington association would be hosts to delegates from other New Zealand Y.M.C-A.’s. This would be preceded by the employed officers’ conference at Trentham and a conference of New Zealand Y.M.C.A. Optimists’ Clubs on March 15.
