RAILWAY ROLLINGSTOCK SHORTAGE

Government Efforts To Remedy Position Replying to a deputation at Hamilton, the Minister of Railways, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, said the G'overnment recognised the shortage of rolling stock, and was doing its best to remedy it. During the depression years the rolling stock had become depleted. Over £1,300,000 had been voted to replenish supplies, and the workshops were busily employed in this direction. But for delay that had occurred in obtaining material from overseas, the position would have been much better than it (yas at the present time. Dealing with another point referred to- by the deputation, Mr. Sullivan said the matter of the rebate allowed on livestock handled by the railway would be examined.
