Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, February 2. At the Wanganui stock sale to-day 10,350 sheep, 200 head of cattle, and 45 vealers, with a moderate entry of pigs, were offered. To-day’s sale will be practically the last heavy yarding of lambs for -the season, 6500 being penned. Top lambs maintained late rates, and all cull lambs sold well, but medium sorts were easier by 1/- to 1/6 a head. The first of the east ewes came forward and sold at fair value at about 7/- a head below the corresponding sale of last year. The top price for 4-year ewes was 27/1 ; hill-bred 2-tooth ewes. 31/9; 4-tooth, 33/1 and • 6-tooth 29/4. Only a few pens of medium lambs remained unsold. Fat cattle were just a little easier than last week. A fairly heavy yarding of fat exdairy cows came forward. A fair entry of store cattle met a very fair sale. Fat sheep were firm to a little better. At the weekly Masterton stock sale today the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency submitted a good yarding of sheep and pigs. Fat sheep remained, at late rates. The store sheep consisted principally of b.f. and w.f. lambs. The b.f. lambs fit for rape sold at prices on ia par with last week’s rates, while the w.f. lambs were even cheaper than the recent low rates. A total clearance was effected as follows :— Fat sheep: Fat wethers, 25/- to 25/6; light fat b.f. m.s. 2-tooths, 20/-. to 21/9; fat ewes, 17/-; fat lambs, 21/6 to 25/-. . Store sheep: B.f. rape lambs, 14/- to 15/6;,medium b.f. lambs, 10/6 to 12/-; small lambs, 7/6 to 8/6; woolly wether lambs, 13/10 to 14/6; medium, 11/- to 12/6 ; 2-tooth .ewes, 28/6 ; s.m. ewes, 12/6 t0,16/6; fattening ewes, 8/6 to 11/9. Pigs: Good weaners, 18/-' to 16/-; weaners., 10/-. 11/- and 12/-. The N.Z. Farmers’ .Co-operative Distributing Co. offered a large entry of sheep and a small yarding of cattle. The best rape Jambs sold at prices about on a par with those ruling last week. W.f. lambs showed an easing tendency. The following are some of the sales:—Extra good b.f. rape lambs, 18/3 to 19/3 ; good. 14/9 to 16/6: others, 12/- to 13/1; small, 8/- to, 10/-; good woolly w.f. wether lambs. 12/- to 13/9; small, 8 /- to 9/-; shorn w.f. wether lambs, 11/to 12/9; small, 9/9; 2-tooth wethers, 18/ -to 18/3; cull, 12/-. Forward cows, ex dairy, £3 to £3/6/-; springing cows, £3/10/-. IVright, Stephenson’s had a big entry of sheep. The yarding consisted of both black-face and white-face lambs, and the quality and condition of these was very good. Good b.f. lamhs sold well and maintained late rates. However, white face lambs were definitely lower and prices were back from 1/6 to 2/- a head. Vendors met the market and every pen was sold under the hammer at the following prices:— B.f. lambs, 15/2 to .16/3; woolly w. lamhs, 11/3 to 14/6; woolly w. lambs, small, 9/- to .10/7; ewe lambs, small, 12/9 to 16/3; m.a. ewes, to 19/9; twotooth wethers, to 20/9; failing-mouth ewes, 7/1 to 9/9. Dalgety and Co. offered a full yarding of sheep. Bidding throughout on lambs, specially w.f. wether lambs, was rather restricted, with the result that there was a general easing of prices, the only lines remaining on par being good forward b.f. lambs which would take very little topping off. Ewe lambs met a fairly keen ninrket and prices were firm. Vendors in all cases met the market and there was a trfal clearance of the entry, which consisted of 2716 sheep under the hammer. Fordell Ewe Fair

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report that at the Fordell ewe fair on Tuesday 11.000 ewes, 1000 in excess of the advertised number, came forward. With vendors willing to meet the market a verv good sale is reported, fully 90 per cent, of the yarding being sold under the hammer. Ewes this year are in most eases showing the effects of a dry season, and many annual drafts were light in condition as IBompared with the previous season’s drafts. The top price for five-year ewes was obtained by Mr. H. C. Addenbrooke. Mangamahu. whose ewes made 25/-. A good line of four and six-tooth ewes on account of Mr. A. Duncan, No 2 Line, realised 29/-. and another line of 200 fresh condition five-year ewes on-account of the same vendor realised 24/-. The six-year and sound-mouth ewes met with good competition, Taranaki buyers bidding freely. A line of 393 s.m. ewes on account of V. Blyth, No. 1 Line, realised 19/6, and the six-year ewes on account of the same vendor brought 20/6. Several pens of fattening ewes met with a good demand. Marton buyers being the purchasers in most eases, the range in price being 9/3 to 14/-. A small entry of lambs met with a fair demand, a good line of 394 shorn w.f. wether lambs on account of B. M. Cranstone, Kauangaroa, realising 16/1. On account of Mr. A. M, Campbell. Matahiwi, 120 head of eattle met with a readv demand; -12 P.A. and Hereford cows realised £7 ; 30 two and three-year P.A. heifers. £6/1/-; 17 P.A. steers, £7 10/-: and 25 big four and five-year coloured bullocks on account of another vendor realised £9/12/-. The range of prices was : — Two-tooth ewes 30/-: four and sixtooth ewes. 29/-; four and five-year ewes, 20/- to 2?/-: sound mouth and sixyear ewes. 17/- to 20/2; fattening ewes, 9/3 to 14/-; two-tooth wethers, 20/5; shorn w.f. wether lambs, 16/1: small shorn w.f. wether lambs, 10/9 to 12/-; medium ewe lambs, 18/-.
